Tanika Gupta’s taut, absorbing drama, an original screenplay for BBC Screen Two scored by Nitin Sawhney, is set among a South Asian community in the north of England. It details a journey of discovery after a teenager falls passionately in love. In doing so, she challenges the tyranny of her embittered father and the toxic patriarchy of wider society.
On its 25th anniversary there was special screening at the BFI in 2024 as part of the UK Asian Film Festival
